Seasons change, it’s inevitable
Settled in to the season, I get nervous about the thought of inevitable change. That internal comfort becomes stirred up. The days of long summer evenings and wandering around in sandals or even bare feet come to an end again. But stepping out of my van one evening I got that first hint of what’s ahead.
While writing this issue …
Personally, I went through a lot of challenges while writing this issue. As it goes, life is not linear and living far away from home you learn how to weather the storm as best you can. What we thought would be a permanent decision turned upside down. But it made this issue so much better.
I could edit the contributor stories with deeper compassion, make firm decisions on what to keep and what to cut, plus we found ourselves hosting new friends in the mountains for a camp cook out at altitude.
Advanture Magazine has become so much more than a magazine as you’d typically know one as. This is a journal, both mine and yours. It’s for the true nomadic traveller. I already look back as past issues and see my daughter on her first road trip at just weeks old, to her now running around with her friends in this latest offering (at three years old already!).
For the first time
Issue 13 is the first time I’ve had a contributor come back to continued their story. I want to give a nod to Jamie Hearne who has written what I think is the best story that I’ve had the opportunity to publish in Advanture Magazine, from all 13 issues. In issue 10 he wrote Anchored To A Quest For Balance, outlining his work at sea and how he handles the drive for land based travel while on leave. And he laid a plan in that article - quit his job, sell his stuff and ship a new van over to the Americas.
In this latest issue, Jamie and girlfriend Lucy are travelling through North America, having successfully imported their van from the UK. But this is not your normal travel tale. It’s a rite of passage we all must endure at some point in our lives, experiencing the passing of a core family member.
What’s in this issue?
The latest issue of Advanture Magazine is now ready to order, and ships early December 2024. This issue is all about seasonal changes, the journey to winter.
Hunker down and seek comfort in your home. Be that in a small van, a tiny cabin or a huge school bus. The stories in this issue are the type of tales where you want to be wrapped up and sipping something warming.
How am I going to enjoy this one?
I’ll seek out a stormy night when the snow closes in. Play something chill on my old radio, wrap up in my sleeping bag, pop open the hip flask and appreciate every single bit of the new season blowing in.
See you on the road, Alex
