I love the idea of these but suspect your experience might be fairly typical. With a small diameter set of blades, mounted low down, a consistent breeze that is not too strong and not too weak will be hard to come by.
Yes I agree. I've got a few very exposed areas around me on the mountain sides, but I think for the majority of people the best test will be from some sort of roof mounted position to try eliminate ground based turbulence.
I would try this, only if it was discrete and didn't make much of a noise at night. Van living can be noisy when trying to sleep. So that would be most important to me.
So, the audio in the video clip above is in fact the natural sound and was recorded with an external microphone. I couldn't really hear the turbine over the wind noise! I agree with you, it needs to be discrete. Will for sure make another video with the audio in mind and not it in the captions!
An interesting perk that the company have added into the design is the ability to tether their own solar panel to the wind station, so you can use both to charge a device. More testing needed to report anything on that though.
Looks ideal Alex, just keen to know what sort of power they can generate and the costs. Wonder how comparable with solar it is. To be honest I could do with it tonight 😆
A very good possibility to get electric power in the shadow or in the dark. I am very interested in your test and to see, how much power this wind generator makes!

Hi Alex whats the cost as would be great on my windfoiling road trip...
I think this particular one is €450. If you are on a trip chasing the wind, that would be a great bit of story! Where are you heading?

That'll be good to know. I spoke to them about a roof mount when we last messaged too.
Did they have any solutions in mind already? I am thinking that is the best place for it, too.
This is a great solution as an extra to solar, would be good to see what kinda power you can produce from it,

I've ordered a USB dongle that reads W and A which I will put in-line on the next tests. Sit tight! Windy out on the coast then?

Thank you Dietmar. That is a very good point regarding the shade, one I had not thought about ...
I'd love to know what gear you all would charge using wind power?
